2024 Presidents Cup: Day 1 fourball matches at Royal Montreal
International captain Mike Weir and U.S. captain Jim Furyk revealed on Wednesday the matchups for Day 1 fourballs at the Presidents Cup.
Here’s a quick look at who will play whom on Thursday at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada (all times ET). Golf Channel coverage will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET
-
11:35 a.m.: Jason Day/Byeong Hun An (INT) vs. Xander Schauffele/Tony Finau (USA)
-
11:53 a.m.: Adam Scott/Min Woo Lee (INT) vs. Collin Morikawa/Sahith Theegala (USA)
-
12:11 p.m.: Sungjae Im/Tom Kim (INT) vs. Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley (USA)
-
12:29 p.m.: Taylor Pendrith/Christiaan Bezuidenhout (INT) vs. Wyndham Clark/Keegan Bradley (USA)
-
12:47 p.m.: Hideki Matsuyama/Corey Conners (INT) vs. Patrick Cantlay/Sam Burns (USA)
Of note, none of the teams on either side have ever played together in the Presidents Cup or (for the Americans) in the Ryder Cup.
Two players will sit for both sides: Max Homa and Brian Harman for the U.S.; Mackenzie Hughes and Si Woo Kim for the Internationals.
Unlike in the Ryder Cup, where a blind draw is used to set the lineup, the Presidents Cup employs a “snake” format.
As captain of the defending champion, Furyk deferred and allowed Weir to first announce his pairing for Match 1. Weir opted for Australia’s Day and South Korea’s An and Furyk countered with Schauffele and Finau.
Furyk then went first for Match 2 with Weir following and then going first for Match 3, and so on.
Following Thursday’s play, the teams will compete in five foursomes (alternate shot) on Friday and then four fourballs and four foursomes in a double-session Saturday. Sunday will be 12 singles matches. The first team to reach 15 1/2 points will win the competition. If there is a 15-15 tie, the teams share the cup.
