Scottish whisky collection among biggest in world captured in incredible photos

Incredible images of a Scottish whisky collection that is one of the biggest in the world have been shared ahead of World Whisky Day on Saturday.

Comprising 3,384 bottles of Scotch whisky, the amazing collection was assembled by Brazilian whisky aficionado Claive Vidiz. The enthusiast spent 35 years collecting bottles of various types, prices, and rarities.

Vidiz, a worker in the pharmaceutical industry, was introduced to the spirit by a Scottish colleague. His coworker visited with six bottles of Islay Malt, which sparked the enthusiast’s lifelong obsession.

In 2006, whisky distiller Diageo bought the collection. It is now housed at the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh.

Following the purchase, Vidiz commented: “We have an expression in Brazil – ‘the good son returns home’ – and in my view the collection is back with its family now”.

Visitors to the Scotch Whisky Experience can examine every bottle in the collection. Among the highlights is a 22-year-old Glen Grant, produced by a now-defunct Glasgow distillery.

A spokesperson from the Scotch Whisky Experience said: “One of the most unique aspects of this collection was Claive’s desire to collect as wide a range of whisky as possible, from the most accessible to the rarest, including eccentric and unusual items.

“Having been preserved in its entirety, we have an invaluable insight into the recent history and branding of Scotch whisky; a unique “snapshot” of 35 years of the Scotch whisky industry.”
