Clement ‘doing too much’ as Rangers boss to delegate jobs as he maps out plan
Philippe Clement believes he’s doing too much as Rangers manager and that he has to delegate jobs within the club better.
The Ibrox boss always knew he had a job on his hands to hoist the club up from where they sat when Michael Beale was axed back in October. New January signings were necessary as was a change in mindset and a tactical switch to ensure the players understood exactly what was being demanded of them. The Belgian brought them back to a title fight with Celtic even if they did just lose out this week.
Taking the final two games into consideration, Clement also acknowledges that there are still major decisions and plans to be made for the future and that includes his own role at the club.
He now has Nils Koppen to lean on in transfer business but there are other issues to deal with and he needs help with those, too. That’s what he’s been and will continue to have talks with the board about after the Scottish Cup Final on May 25 to ensure he has more time next season to focus on the football solely.
“There are several things I want to change but we’re in talks about that in the club,” Clement said. “I think for the moment, I’m doing too much so it needs to be better delegated in the club. Is it a bigger overhaul than I first expected? Yes. The club has been honest about a lot of things but the injury issue has been bigger than I expected. There will be changes. What is significant? I think as a club we’re at the end of a cycle so we need to change some stuff and I want them to end this cycle with a really big moment next Saturday.”
