Lanarkshire pool hall is Scotland’s best sports bar for the second year running

McGoldrick’s Pool and Sports Bar on Rutherglen Main Street became Scotland’s Best Sports Bar at the 11th Annual Molson Coors Scottish Entertainment & Hospitality Awards ceremony at the Doubletree Hilton last week.

Since it opened three years ago, the family-run pub, named after Scottish cue sports legend and family friend, Michael McGoldrick, has become part of the community.

Owner Paul Corrigan spoke on what winning the award means to him, he said: “We built the pool hall from scratch, and we have been involved in pool and snooker for years, so we knew what we needed to do to make the pool hall great.

“In my opinion, we are the best club, but we cannot just expect to win because we think we are the best.

“I was a bit more nervous this year because we had won last year, and there were bars in the category that I didn’t believe should be classed as sports bars, like Graces, who would have a lot of customer support.

“After we spoke to the judges when we won, they told us that we had won it out of the park and we were amazing, which was really comforting to show that we are doing something right.”
