Drivers face major disruption as traffic lights down across Scots city
DRIVERS are facing major disruption in Glasgow today after nearly 70 traffic lights stopped working across the city.
Motorists have been warned that they face travel chaos after the traffic lights in the city centre lost power this morning.
Busy junctions and crossing grounds have come to a standstill amid the power failure.
The blackout started in the early hours of this morning, Glasgow City Council has confirmed.
They currently have a number of engineers out in the city trying to fix the problem.
But they warned that it may take some time before power is restored to all of the affected traffic lights.
The local authority said that the glitch is connected to power spikes and outages overnight.
They explained that a minimum of 68 traffic signals are currently not working.
And engineers need to reset each one of the traffic lights in order to restore power.
It is unclear when they are hoping to have the issue resolved.

But the local authority is urging people to drive carefully and approach the affected junctions with caution.
Roads should be treated like an unmarked junction and proceed with great care, according to the Highway code.
Glasgow City Council took to social media to warn motorists of the outages.
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, the local authority said: “WARNING – CITYWIDE TRAFFIC LIGHT FAULTS.
“After what appears to have been a power spike in the early hours of the morning, at least 68 sets of traffic signals are currently out of operation.
“As the faults are spread across the city, it may take some time to restore all signals.
“In the meantime, please drive carefully and approach with caution.”
The outage comes just two weeks after dozens of traffic lights stopped working in Glasgow.
A total of 38 traffic lights stopped working on the morning of Sunday, May 5, but the issue was resolved by lunchtime.
