Chelsea vs Bournemouth LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

A magnificent lobbed goal from the halfway line by Moises Caicedo and a twisting effort from Raheem Sterling earned Chelsea a 2-1 win over Bournemouth in their last Premier League game on Sunday and a place in European competition next season.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto rushed out of his area in the 17th minute to stop a fast advancing Sterling but his clearance dropped to Caicedo and the Ecuadorean lobbed a perfect shot from the halfway line straight into the net for his first Chelsea goal.

Two minutes into the second half, Sterling doubled the lead rounding two defenders before slipping the ball through Neto’s legs at the near post. But barely a minute later Bournemouth got one back when Enes Unal’s shot took a big deflection off Benoit Badiashile into the Chelsea net.

The result means Chelsea finish sixth in the table, earning a place in the Europa League if champions Manchester City win the FA Cup final next weekend or the Europa Conference League, if Manchester United beat their city rivals.

Chelsea player ratings: Caicedo stuns as Madueke proves outstanding

18:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

Chelsea qualified for European football next season as they completed the season with a 2-1 home win over Bournemouth.

It remains to be seen whether it will be Europa League or Europa Conference League football, but Chelsea did all they could as goals by Moises Caicedo and Raheem Sterling helped them past the Cherries, whose only goal came from Enes Unal.

A sixth-place finish marks a sizeable improvement from last season, when the Blues finished 12th.

An excellent start to the second half brings a second Chelsea goal and daylight between them and the visitors as Sterling glides past Zabarnyi and stabs through Neto’s legs. But within two minutes, Bournemouth are on the scoresheet and back in the contest, Enes Unal’s limp effort going in off Badiashile.

This game is getting just a bit spicy, stemming from the way Semenyo lugged Cucurella to the ground there. Chelsea remain well on top, and ahead through Caicedo’s moment of inspiration.

Well we’ve played 17 minutes and I can confidently say no one will score a better goal on this last day of the season than that from Moises Caicedo. Neto looks to have dealt with the threat and cleared, but Caicedo lobs him from the halfway line. A ridiculous goal. Stunning.

The defender gallops forward and frees Madueke, although his cross to the back post is far too close to Neto.

Sterling did well there to progress forward and slip Palmer through, but once he had done the hard work, all Palmer could do was slam wide. Big chances goes begging for the hosts. Bright start from them, though.

Cole Palmer is presented with the Premier League Young Player of the Year award. With 22 goals and 10 assists in his first league season for the Blues, it’s fair to say he’s been their inspiration throughout this campaign. If they secure European football for next season today, much of the credit ought to go his way.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

15:51 , Jonathan Gorrie

A final run-out then for Thiago Silva in a Chelsea shirt, but it remains Conor Gallagher who captains Chelsea today. Silva gave an emotional farewell interview this week in which he pleaded with the current crop of Blues players to realise how fortunate they are to represent Chelsea.

The 39-year-old is well thought of throughout the football world and many will be hoping he delivers a good final performance for Chelsea before rejoining Fluminense, whose academy he graduated through, in the summer.

It will certainly be the last time Chelsea fans see Thiago Silva in action today but he may not be the only one.

Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are both facing uncertain futures…

Mauricio Pochettino responds to Todd Boehly comments as Chelsea future becomes clear

14:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mauricio Pochettino has welcomed Todd Boehly’s backing ahead of crunch talks on his Chelsea future next week.

Blues co-owner Boehly insisted this week “anything good takes time”, in praising Chelsea’s recent upturn in form.

Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League form table since the turn of the year, and can claim their fifth win in a row for the first time under their new owners in Sunday’s season-closing clash with Bournemouth.

Chelsea’s directors are understood to have broad support for Pochettino continuing into next season, but the Argentine coach will meet the Blues’ sporting directors and Behdad Eghbali next week for a pivotal sit-down.

Chelsea set out Christopher Nkunku plan vs Bournemouth

14:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted Chelsea will not take any risks with fit-again striker Christopher Nkunku in Sunday’s season-closing clash with Bournemouth.

Nkunku came off the bench to fire a fine winner in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory at Brighton, but the 26-year-old has only just beaten long-term knee and hamstring problems.

The £52million RB Leipzig signing has managed just three goals in 13 appearances in his injury-ravaged first term at Stamford Bridge.

But now that he is back fit, Pochettino insisted Chelsea will handle him carefully.

Mauricio Pochettino reveals lowest moment that had him fearing for Stamford Bridge future

14:02 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted fearing for his Chelsea future after the Blues’ 4-2 home loss to Wolves in February.

The Blues compounded a 4-1 Premier League defeat at Liverpool with a damaging reverse at home to Gary O’Neil’s side to slip to 11th in the top-flight standings.

In a season of transition and turmoil, Pochettino has now conceded that represented the low point.

The Argentine and his coaches sat together in a two-hour debrief afterwards, shocked at the nature of the loss.

What do Chelsea need to qualify for Europe today?

13:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

A brilliant run of form that has seen Chelsea win their last four games in a row has catapulted them up the table.

After being sat in 11th as recently as March, Chelsea have now overtaken both Newcastle and Manchester United and are suddenly favourites to finish in sixth.

If Chelsea win and Tottenham lose at Sheffield United, Chelsea will finish fifth and Tottenham sixth, confirming a Europa League spot for Chelsea.

They need to get at least a point at home against Bournemouth to confirm a sixth-place finish – which would also be enough for the Europa League if Manchester United don’t win the FA Cup.

If they lose and Newcastle win at Brentford, Newcastle will finish sixth due to their superior goal difference, and Chelsea will finish seventh. Chelsea will then have to rely on Manchester City winning the FA Cup to make the Conference League.

Mauricio Pochettino will head for Chelsea future talks in strong position if he breaks cycle

13:18 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mauricio Pochettino can notch a new Todd Boehly-era Premier League winning run on Sunday and heap pressure on Chelsea’s bosses to keep him at the helm.

Pochettino could lead Chelsea to five league wins in a row for the first time in two years in the season-closing clash against Bournemouth.

The last time Chelsea won five league matches on the spin, Thomas Tuchel was manager and Roman Abramovich was still owner.

Pochettino is understood to boast growing support from Chelsea’s board to continue into a second season. The Blues’ hierarchy has continued assessing other options, including Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.

As for Bournemouth, Milos Kerkez has served a three-match suspension and could come straight back into the side at Stamford Bridge.

Tyler Adams is available again, having made just his fourth appearance of an injury-hit campaign against Brighton last time out, while Dominic Solanke needs a goal against his former side to reach the 20-goal mark in the Premier League this season.

Reece James is suspended for Chelsea after his red card for kicking out in the win over Brighton, while Thiago Silva can expect to start in what will be his final appearance for the club.

Ben Chilwell and Christopher Nkunku are among those who have also recently returned to fitness and can expect to feature, but Mykhailo Mudryk has been ruled out with suspected concussion having suffered a blow to his head against Brighton.

Christopher Nkunku may not be risked, however, given the extent of his injury problems this season.
