Scots takeaway with ‘big portions and huge flavour’ crowned Takeaway of the Year

The ‘Best Takeaway’ in Scotland has been crowned at a prestigious award ceremony.

Last week, the 12th edition of the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards were held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow. The annual event celebrates excellence within the Scottish hospitality industry across a range of categories.

Taking home the coveted Best Takeaway award was Tempura in Ayr. The eatery, which specialises in battered seafood and vegetables, fended off competition from other finalists such as Liberta Restaurant in Bathgate, Hamptons Brunch in Glasgow, and Kastriot’s Gyros 2 Go in Livingston.

Taking to its official Facebook page to share the news, Tempura wrote: “We are not just the ‘best in the west’ but the best in the entire country.” The takeaway added that it was “honoured” to pick up the award for Best Takeaway.

Looking at travel website Tripadvisor, Tempura is also very popular amongst visitors. The restaurant currently has an average rating of five out of five based on 79 reviews.

One recent customer shared: “Love Tempura in Ayr. Good feel to the place, big portions, huge flavour. Have been a few times now and never been disappointed.”

The awards also recognised the country’s top attractions, with Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder and Topgolf in Glasgow winning Best Family Day Out and Best Experience Day respectively.
