Scotland’s washout continues as ‘month’s worth of rain’ sparks widespread floods
SCOTS are set to be battered by even more torrential rain tomorrow after a “month’s worth of rain” is expected in less than 24-hours sparking a widespread washout.
The Met Office has multiple yellow weather warnings in place that are due to last until 6pm tomorrow night.
And forecasters have declared it a “danger to life” for anyone caught up in fast-flowing or deep floodwater.
The alert covers the majority of the country, especially eastern parts.
Heavy rain may bring some disruption to western and northern Scotland as well.
ScotRail warned there are safety restrictions in place on some of their services until 7pm tomorrow.
In a tweet, the railway provider said: “There’s safety-related speed restrictions in place tonight on the following routes due to heavy rainfall:
Kilmarnock – Dumfries (until 19:00 tomorrow), journeys will take up to 30 mins longer
“Around Shotts station, 5 min delay
“Carrbridge – Inverness, up to 15 min delays.”

Previously we told how STV weatherman Sean Batty said Scots should brace for a month’s worth of rain in just 24 hours.
He added: “What can’t be ignored though is that some of our computer models have been indicating totals as high as 150mm – which can be taken as a worst case scenario.
“With average rainfall totals for May around 50-70mm for the east of Scotland it’s very likely that many will see a month’s worth of rain, and in some spots possibly a lot more than that in 24 hours.”
There are a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
Transport links may be affected with some cancellations to train and bus services due to flooding.
Some communities may also become cut off by flood roads.
Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
It is set to clear up by Friday for a brighter and more settled day for some by the weekend.
The Met Office added: “We’re still likely to see some showers on Friday, especially in the north, though there will some brighter spells in the south and east through the day.
“Later on Saturday, a front may move in from the Atlantic bringing a band of rain to Northern Ireland and western parts of Scotland.
“For many though, Saturday is likely to be a fair day, feeling warmer with temperatures slightly higher than average.”

It comes as Scots have been recently enjoying the warm weather, as May so far is the hottest for 160 years.
Temperatures reached 23C as a new 800-mile-wide ‘heat dome’ arrived over the weekend.
