Police are warning they are increasing efforts to clamp down on illegal use of motorbikes and mopeds in Inverness after apprehending three youths in a city neighbourhood.

Officers arrested the driver of the moped after a brief chase on foot.

It follows the death of two teenagers in Moray in March who were involved in a crash with four cars after riding an e-bike on the A941 between Lossiemouth and Elgin.

Police Scotland spokesman said: “Earlier this evening, response officers in Inverness stopped three youths on a moped in a park in the Crown area of Inverness.

“The rider made off on foot, however the officers made chase and he was quickly apprehended and arrested, and will be reported for numerous road traffic offences.

“We are aware that illegal off-road riding of motorbikes and mopeds is an issue affecting many communities across Inverness, and we will take action wherever we can to prosecute illegal riders.

“Please report illegal or anti-social use of motor bikes and mopeds to us on 101, through the ContactUs form on our website, or alternatively anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 500 111.”
