Scotland fans react to latest Irn Bru Euros ad featuring Still Game cult hero

SCOTLAND fans have been reacting with hilarity to an outrageously cheeky Euros-themed advert for Irn Bru.

The fizzy drink is manufactured by Scottish company AG Barr, and the firm has established a reputation for itself over the years with some quirky and hilarious ads.

Still Game fan favourite Lynne McCallum (Peggy) looks a bit different in this skit

Ahead of the Euros, one commercial has already been released featuring Still Game hero Sanjeev Kohli, known for his portrayal of Navid in the hit sitcom.

And now another favourite from the same TV show has made an appearance in their latest skit.

It’s none other than Peggy McAlpine, played by actress Lynne McCallum.

She is one half of a pair of old women seen gossiping in a cafe for the sketch.

They are heard discussing ‘something spreading’ across Scotland that everybody is catching, with the script littered with innuendo.

Their chat becomes so salacious than a nearby ear-wigging Englishman has to get up and leave.

The scene, titled Cafe, has dialogue as follows, (McCallum’s character is Woman A):-

Woman A: “Have you heard? Jackie’s caught a bout of it.”

Woman B: “Yeah. She got it after going on top in Oslo.”

A: “Haven’t been in that position in a while.”

B: “You know Shelly? She got it after Scott [McTominay] scored again.”

A: “Scott? Oh yes. He’s got a lovely touch for a big man.”

B: “Oh, and that Peter, he got a case of it when those Spanish and Cypriot lads were in town.”

A: “Came away with clean sheets too!”

B: “And our Carol, well she got it after that night with Georgia.”

A: “I’ve never known it so wet.”

Then, just as a bunch of Tartan Army diehards pass the window of the cafe they are sitting in

B: “Looks like this optimism is really spreading, eh?”

A: “Aye, everybody’s getting it.”

The commercial then cuts to an image of an Irn Bru can to reveal what the ad is for, with the line “Oh yes ladies, lovely stuff! Optimism, it’s back in Scotland.”

The scene continues as Woman B says: “Graeme, he caught it up the back of the bus to Hampden.”

An English man sitting behind the women in the cafe then stands up abruptly and says: “Good grief! I’ve had quite enough of this filth.”

To which the response from the new Peggy is: “He’s just mad because that lot, they never go all the way.”

Scotland fans have been mostly positive about the skit, and shared their appreciation on social media.

This supporter said: “This is fantastic. Mon Scotland.”

Another said: “Omg it’s Peggy McAlpine from Still Game!”

Another punter commented: “This is fab!”

A fourth said: “Honestly never laughed so much, not a good move while eating a bowl of Cheerios.”
