Exact day Scotland’s temperatures will hit 20C again in June after rain passes

Summer-like temperatures are to return to Scotland from next week as temperatures could hit 20C again, according to forecasters.

The latest WXCharts weather maps show the country starting to heat up once more from Monday, June, 3, with parts of the Central Belt to sizzle in 21C temperatures. Meanwhile, Glasgow and surrounding areas are set to see 20C.

But prior to this, Scots should brace for more outbreaks of rain through the half-term, thanks to a wet weather front that is currently migrating eastwards. A flood warning in place for Tuesday, May 28. It comes after the northeast was placed under a thunderstorm warning over the Bank Holiday Monday.

The rain is expected to continue to fall throughout the week before there is a sign of change by next weekend.

The Met Office has indicated warm weather this June will offer a welcome relief from the rain. It said: “Low pressure will bring outbreaks of rain and showers through much of this week. However, there are hints that high pressure will return for the start of June and the start of meteorological summer at the weekend.”

Speaking about this week’s dreary weather, Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said: “So we do start Tuesday off with some sunshine in the east, where further west, this area of rain will gradually spread its way eastwards during the course of the day. Hanging on to the driest and brightest weather for the longest up across the far northeast of Scotland.

“Most temperatures around average for the time of year but if you’re stuck under the rain, factor in the breeze I think it’s going to feel fairly disappointing for this point in May.”

He went on to say the outlook for the rest of the half-term week looks “fairly changeable” with “further rain and showers” to be expected, again being “heavy and thundery” in places.

BBC weather forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said the this week’s weather could be similar to that seen over the Bank Holiday, which he said was “a little hit and miss”.

He continued: “Further showers are expected not just on Bank Holiday Monday but indeed the rest of the week. Temperatures will be normal, nothing spectacular but at least by the end of the week it does look as though these low pressures should finally pull away as we see high pressure building but the winds will still come in from the north so the certainly isn’t any major warm up in the forecast.”
