‘Perfect’ camping site near Edinburgh crowned best in Scotland ahead of summer
A camping site just outside of Edinburgh that has been described as “perfect” has been crowned the best in Scotland.
With summer just around the corner, people across the country will be thinking about where to head for a staycation. While there is no shortage of lovely hotels and inns all over Scotland, sometimes nothing can beat camping or glamping.
To help you decide on which site to head to, the winners of the Pitchup.com Review Awards have been revealed, and Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site comes in at number one for Scotland. The UK’s leading outdoor accommodation booking platform’s yearly awards celebrate the best camping, glamping, and caravan sites based on its customers’ reviews.
Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site is located on the shores of the Firth of Forth on the outskirts of Musselburgh in East Lothian. The five-star campsite, which also offers luxury self-catering and holiday lodges with hot tubs, is set in the grounds of an old monastery.
The site has an overall rating of 9.8 out of 10 on Pitchup.com based on 87 reviews, with visitors praising its cleanliness, customer service, and value for money. Drummohr is also popular for its location, with easy access to both Edinburgh and a range of stunning local beaches.
In terms of amenities, the campsite features a licensed shop selling local produce and essentials. There are also refurbished tiled shower and toilet blocks, a fully equipped laundry room, a playground, and a dog-walking area.
The Pitchup.com website states: “Don’t fret about whether to focus on the choice of accommodation or the location of dog-friendly Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site in lovely East Lothian, for both are equally special. The location of the site is an excellent one, in the grounds of an old monastery with plenty of space and partial views of the Firth of Forth from some parts.
“Variety is key here: you can have urban or rural days out. Edinburgh is in one direction (and accessible by bus or train) and the East Lothian coast and countryside in the other — the Edinburgh to Prestonpans section of the 134-mile path John Muir Way passes within five minutes of the site entrance.”
