Si Ferry breaks silence after Robert Snodgrass was booed at Open Goal Live

OPEN GOAL host Si Ferry had revealed Robert Snodgrass is ‘devastated’ after his appearance at the popular podcast’s live Glasgow show on Friday night.

The former Scotland international was BOOED by the crowd in a shock moment at the sold out OVO Hydro.

Open Goal Live was back at the arena with more than 14,000 fans packed in for their special send-off show for the Scotland team ahead of Euro 2024.

Host Ferry was joined by podcast regulars including Paul Slane and Kevin Kyle, as well as an array of big name guests.

Scotland legend James McFadden and former national team boss Gordon Strachan were among those taking to the stage.

Current Scotland aces including Lyndon Dykes and Ryan Porteous were also on the guest list.

Ex-Scotland star Robert Snodgrass was another guest who was invited to take part.

However, it’s safe to say his appearance didn’t quite go to plan.

Videos surfaced on social media showing the moment he was loudly BOOED in the arena while telling a story.

Ferry and Kyle can both be heard trying to calm the crowd down, with Ferry also urging Snodgrass to tell a story about a Leigh Griffiths prank.

Former Aston Villa and West Ham ace Snodgrass begins to tell the Griffiths tale, but boos can once again be heard before the clip ends.

Snoddy also declared Steven Naismith the worst player he’d played with at international level.

Naismith was Hearts boss when Snodgrass brought his career to an end while playing at Tynecastle.

As well as the hostile reception inside the arena, punters on social media also took aim at Snodgrass.

One described his appearance as an “absolute shocker” while another insisted he had “bombed.”

The ex-footie star then appeared to DELETE his X account amid the backlash.

The live show took a break and Snodgrass didn’t return.

Now, in this week’s Open Goal podcast, Ferry has broken his silence on the Hydro drama.

He’s leapt to Snodgrass’ defence and says the former Scotland ace has been left DEVASTATED by the situation.

Former Rangers and Scotland striker Kevin Kyle also backed Snodgrass said: “It’s like when I first started doing speakers nights.

“I used to tell the story in my head but when I got out and delivered it I thought ‘oh f***, I went over the top with that’.

“In my head I had seen how it was going to pan out. I think that is all that Snoddy did.

“He went out there with a story that was very a funny story when he told us it. What he tried to do was get everyone involved and he ended up losing himself.

“He forgot where he was and then he was trying to find it and take it back. It’s hard because you have a group of guys there and women that have maybe had a drink and don’t have that attention span at that time of night.”

Ferry then also mounted his own defence of Snodgrass against people who are “slaughtering” him.

The podcast presenter insisted Snodgrass didn’t even need to do it and has been left gutted by what happened.

Ferry added: “I have seen people totally slaughtering him.

“People don’t realise, Snoddy has probably got a few quid and he probably didn’t even need to do this – he did it to help us out.

“He is actually devastated, mate. He has deleted his Twitter because, what? He never told a story right.”
