Paedo Scotland lifeboat volunteer hosts kid’s party in ‘safeguarding breach’

A SEX-offender lifeboat volunteer hosted a kids’ party at a station in a huge failure of safeguarding.

Tom Booth was ditched after The Scottish Sun raised concerns from whistle-blowers.

But questions were being asked if the charity carried out a full disclosure check when they employed him.

Booth, 44, lost his teaching job after admitting possessing indecent images of a child.

He was given a three-month prison term for each of three criminal offences he admitted while a teacher in Barrow, Cumbria.

His 2015 jail term was suspended for two years.

But after being added to sex offender register in England and Wales for up to ten years the married dad moved from Bingley, West Yorks, to Scotland.

He joined the RNLI as a volunteer before landing a full-time role.

Last year he was snapped hosting a party for up to 30 kids at Kessock Lifeboat Station in Inverness.

The pic was later removed from the RNLI’s website.

Last night whistle-blowers claimed the RNLI was aware of Booth’s history but instead of firing him they put in place strict conditions.

One insider said: “The public deserves to know how there has been a serious safeguarding breach. The RNLI cannot be seen to have turned a blind eye.”

The RNLI refused to answer our questions on safeguarding, alleged cover-ups, and the conviction of Booth, who now lives in northern Scotland.

A spokesman said: “After joining as volunteer crew, the RNLI were made aware of a spent criminal conviction, following a suspended sentence, and put strict conditions in place to restrict his contact with children.

“When we became aware an agreed condition was breached, the RNLI acted swiftly to stand down the volunteer from his operational role.”
