Nicki Minaj delights Glasgow fans with popular Scots anthem at Hydro gig

Nicki Minaj impressed Glasgow fans during her gig at the OVO Hydro last night as she chanted a popular Scots anthem.

The US rapper got the crowd hyped up as she belted out the words to the The Proclaimer’s classic tune, Gonna Be (500 Miles).

Last year, Gonna Be (500 miles) generated an estimated $3.6 million in royalties after being streamed on Spotify more than half a billion times. Brothers Craig and Charlie Reed’s tune has proven to be a strong earner in the digital age despite being released as a single in 1988 and it’s since become the unofficial anthem of Scotland.

And of course Minaj likes to tailor her shows to the audience so it was no surprise when the official ‘Gigs in Scotland’ Instagram page shared the footage of Nicki on stage with a Scotland flag wrapped around her, as she chanted the words to the Scots twins’ famous anthem, the Record reports.

They penned: “Tonight Glasgow was Gag City @ovohydro It’s @nickiminaj ’s world and we’re just living in it! Thank you for an incredible night. #pinkfriday2worldtour.”

And fans absolutely loved the surprise and flocked to the comments.
