Competition time for gymnasts
Stewartry gymnasts have had two weekends of competitions recently.
On May 18, the club’s two piece teams took part in the City of Edinburgh Extravaganza with some great results.
In the eight years beginners, Laylah-Rose Crawford picked up a bronze medal on vault.
In the 10/11 beginners, Lucy Donnelly was awarded ribbons for fourth on floor and fifth on vault. Lucy, alongside teammates Alaina, Martha and Faye finished fourth as a team.
In the 12+ beginners, Olivia Dickie finished sixth on floor, Libby Earl finished fourth overall and Maisy Wilde was awarded bronze for floor. Together, as a team the girls won gold.
In the 14+ intermediate category, all the girls showcased new vaults to finish fourth as a team.
On May 25, the four piece team headed to Ravenscraig for the women’s artistic prep grades. The goal was to pass, scoring 50 and everyone surpassed this scoring in higher brackets.
All the prep one gymnasts passed working above with scores over 55. They all had top 10 finishes on pieces and good overall placings too.
Abbie McRobert finished 12th overall and picked up a silver medal on floor. Lexie Anderson finished 10th overall, with Eilidh Henderson finishing just ahead of her in ninth.
Meadow McLachlan took part in the prep two category and was 16th overall and finished eighth on beam.
All the prep two gymnasts passed with scores over 60.
Mia Kerr placed sixth overall and first on vault.
The teams are now looking forward to their club championships on June 15. The event will be held as a fundraiser as the club continue their efforts to purchase new bars.
