Man and woman charged after dog allegedly stabbed to death in Edinburgh

A man has been charged after a gang allegedly chased a man into an Edinburgh shop and stabbed his two dogs.

Armed police and dog handlers raced to the Calder Park area of the city following reports of a disturbance at the Premier Calder Park Supermarket around 4.30pm on Friday.




An Alsatian was pronounced dead at the scene and a second one was rushed to a vet with life-threatening injuries. The dog’s condition is currently unknown.

Police have now confirmed a 37-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident. A 34-year-old woman was also arrested and charged with breach of the peace.

An investigation is still ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.30pm on Friday, 31 May, 2024, we were called to a report of a disturbance involving a group of men in the Calder Park area of Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and one dog was discovered dead at the scene. Another dog was found with serious injuries and taken to a vet for treatment.

“A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection and is due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 3 June, 2024.

“A 39-year-old woman was also charged in connection with a breach of the beach offence and will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
