The Scottish coastal town near Glasgow home to one of country’s ‘best’ beaches
June has officially begun, which means summer is finally here.
While it may not seem like it with the wet weather we have been having lately, the holiday season is at last kicking off. Some Scots will be jetting off for a fancy trip abroad, but there is plenty of stunning destinations closer to home as well.
For the Daily Record’s first Town of the Week of the summer season, we have chosen the picturesque coastal spot of Troon. If you are looking for a sunny staycation destination, or even just somewhere to head for a day out, this South Ayrshire seaport is the perfect choice.
Situated around just 40 minutes out of Glasgow by car or train, Troon has long been popular amongst those in the city for its spectacular beach. In fact, just last week, Troon Beach was crowned one of the very best in the country at the 2024 Scotland’s Beach Awards.
Featuring long stretches of soft sands and spectacular views out across to the Isle of Arran, the beach is the ideal spot to relax and soak up some sun. There is even a bustling esplanade, where you can pick up everything from fish and chips to ice cream.
Its beach is far from all that Troon has to offer, however. From renowned specialist whisky retailer The Jar to its woodland ‘fairy trail’, there is something for everyone.
