Iconic Glasgow chip shop is giving away free fish suppers with whisky sauce
An iconic Scottish fish shop has announced that it will be offering free chip suppers with whisky sauce this week.
Popular Glasgow chippy Blue Lagoon is teaming up with Scots whisky bottler The Single Cask to give away 50 takeaway fish suppers with whisky-infused sauce to celebrate International Fish and Chip Day on June 6. Located next to Glasgow Central Station, Blue Lagoon will give the first 50 customers who walk through its doors on Thursday and ask for a ‘The Single Cask Saucy Sensation’ a free supper.
The unique Single Cask ‘Chippy Sauce’ is made using a nine-year-old single cask whisky from Benrinnes Distillery, and uses balsamic vinegar of Modena to create a sweet and spicy flavour. It is one of a range of new single cask whisky sauces created by Fife-based The Single Cask alongside The Whisky Sauce Co.
Also founded in Fife, The Whisky Sauce Co specialises in creating “the best whisky sauces in the country”. Its single cask range was debuted to whisky fans at Feis Ile whisky festival on Islay at the end of May.
Meanwhile, Blue Lagoon has been a Glasgow phenomenon for nearly 50 years, with its first fish and chip shop in the city opening on the city’s Sauchiehall Street in 1975. Founded by Italian-born entrepreneur Ersilio Varese and his childhood sweetheart Edda Varese, the company is now managed by director Alessandro Varese.
Mr Varese commented: “We strive to give the people of Glasgow the best fish and chips in the city. The Single Cask whisky is exceptional.
“It works deliciously in the ‘Chippy Sauce’ they have created. Their approach to flavour lends itself perfectly to our Fish Suppers at Blue Lagoon.
“As we always say, think fish and chips, think Blue Lagoon — this partnership will definitely get people thinking about our fish suppers on International Fish & Chip Day!”
Brand Marketing Manager at The Single Cask Helen Stewart added: “Glasgow is such an exciting city and to partner with someone with the legendary history of Blue Lagoon is really special. We believe this collaboration showcases both flavour and character extremely well, two things that are very important to us at The Single Cask.
