Inside new first-of-its-kind adrenaline-filled family mountain experience

A THRILLING new ride is being launched in the Scottish mountains.

The Cairngorms already attract thousands of tourists every year to take in the natural beauty.

Now they can speed down the slope as part of a new carting experience – the first of its kind in the country.

Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited (CMSL) is launching the new attraction from July. 

Adults and teens can take have a go at the cart ride, which will run throughout the school holidays and on weekends from the summer season.

The three-wheelers will hurtle down the mountain on adrenaline-fuelled rides of 1.9km, led by an experienced guide in two daily sessions. 

Suitable for over 14s, the sessions will include an exciting ride to the top of the trail in the back of an off-road ‘Unimog’ vehicle, offering views at over 900 metres above sea level before the thrill of the downhill challenge begins.

The mountain carting trail twists and turns downhill finishing back at the base station. 

Riders will be given equipment and training, with the whole session guided by experts and lasting around 45 minutes.

CEO of CMSL Susan Smith said: “Our exciting new mountain carting adds another adrenaline-fuelled experience to our summer offering – visitors are really going to love it.

“This is just one of a number of great new plans in the pipeline for the resort, with an exciting and major expansion of our play park coming later in the summer.”

Owned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and operated by the Cairngorm Mountain team, the resort is one of Scotland’s iconic locations attracting visitors of all ages and abilities in every season of the year.

With environmental rangers who oversee the protection of the site and can offer insights into its unique nature, visitors can learn about the Cairngorms and Scotland’s mountain environment.

The Mountain Carting experience will cost £25 per person per session.

As well as being ideal for leisure visitors, the experience can also be booked for groups.
