Five things to do in Scotland this week — from Rufus Wainwright to Martin Boyce

This is no ordinary festival of the written word. Titled Warp and Weft: a tapestry of poetry, this year’s programme is full of events that celebrate the craftsmanship behind creativity. So, as well as getting a chance to hear poetry recitals, you might learn more about making zines, baking, podcasting, actual weaving, or join one of the writing workshops. The Scottish makar Kathleen Jamie is one of the poets performing at festival opening night (March 8, Byre Theatre). It’s also worth looking out for Grangemouth at Night, Smoke and Lights, a poetic response to the work of Dovecot Studios by the writer and performer Lisa Fannen (until March 16, Laidlaw Music Centre foyer).
Details March 8-10, various venues, St Andrews; stanzapoetry.org/festival/stanza-2024

Rufus Wainwright will be joined by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra when he plays Glasgow
