Doonhamers make trip to cheer on Scotland
Doonhamers Tartan Army Supporters set off on the march to Munich yesterday morning and were “totally buzzing” about their trip of a lifetime.
Chairman Ross Corbett said they couldn’t wait to get behind the Scotland team as they play their first Euros match against Germany in the Allianz Arena.
Ross, 52, said: “About 55 of us from the supporters club will be in Germany and we’ve got tickets for all three games.
“The last time we had something like this was the World Cup in France 98.
“Some of the older guys are more excited about the trip than the younger ones who have never been to a big tournament before.
“We’ve got one whose wife says he’s been absolutely hyper for days, pacing about all over the place.
“We’re just totally buzzing.
“I predict we’ll draw against Switzerland and Hungary, but will probably get beaten by Germany.”
And the Dumfries contingent of the Tartan Army will be cheering on local lad Grant Hanley.
Ross said: “We were at the game last Friday night when Grant got his 50th cap for Scotland and was given the captain’s armband when Andy Robertson went off.
“We were all cheering him on.
“Some of the boys going to Germany know him through youth football.
“We’ve also got a connection with the Scotland team through Lyndon Dykes, who is unfortunately injured.”
Ross’ partner Angela Williamson is Lyndon’s cousin.
He said: “Angela isn’t coming to Germany.
“She’ll be at home getting peace and quiet while I’m away.
“She says she’s not bothered about football but I know, like everyone else, she’ll be glued to the telly when Scotland are playing.
“We’ll be soaking it all up and hopefully be coming home with memories to last a lifetime.”
