John Swinney arrives in Munich fan zone ahead of Scotland vs Germany clash

John Swinney has arrived by police escort to the fan zone in Munich.

The Record watched as half a dozen black cars drove down through the back entrance of the Olympapark before the First Minister emerged in a full kilt.

He then walked up a grassy hill to the side of the stage before greeting fans and posing for pictures.

He then disappeared with a large group behind the stage ahead of a surprise appearance.

Soon enough Swinney appeared alongside a number of German officials including the Mayor of Munich and national team legend Philip Lamb.

Also on stage was Edinburgh Lord Provist Robert Aldridge as the capital and Munich celebrated being 70 years years of being ‘twin cities’.

Swinney and Aldridge each gave a short speech thanking the German’s for the hospitality before the First Minister left the stage as Yes Sir I Can Boogie blasted over the speakers.

The Munich fanzone has been the place to be for ticketless Scots on Friday.

The Tartan Army flooded through the gates from as early as 11am and the arena is now full to capacity.

Others in the city have been told not to travel in.

Fans have been singing songs for hours and enjoying beers in the glorious sunshine, despite waiting in long queues for refreshments.
