Glasgow Warriors player ratings: Scotland stars shine as Munster shocked by breakdown brilliance

Following a 17-10 victory over Munster in the United Rugby Championship semi-final at Thomond Park on Saturday, here are the player ratings for Glasgow Warriors.

15 Josh McKay: Steady at the back and a real threat on the counter-attack. A very intelligent player who helped keep Munster at arm’s length. 7

14 Sebastian Cancelliere: Scored the decisive try and did everything asked of him elsewhere. Has been an excellent signing for the Warriors. 7

13 Huw Jones: Set up Cancelliere’s score with a brilliant break and was a threat whenever he got the ball. Once again linked well with Tuipulotu. 7

Physicality

12 Sione Tuipulotu: The bruising centre had a superb game. Continually sent Munstermen into reverse when carrying into traffic, while he was also excellent on defence. 8

11 Kyle Steyn (c): Another fine game from the wing, who has led the team superbly over the past couple of weeks. Rarely makes a mistake and is always a threat with the ball. 7

10 Tom Jordan: Did his job well as a fly-half but at times he acted as an extra back-row. Incredibly physical and some outstanding work at the breakdown. Some performance. 8

9 George Horne: Not as influential as last weekend. There were some good moments, but he was caught a couple of times at the base. 6

8 Jack Dempsey: Relentless work rate but perhaps not quite as prominent as his back-row colleagues, who were exceptional. 6

Dominating the breakdown

7 Rory Darge: As stated above, Darge was superb. The Scotland international continually ruined Munster’s ball at the contact area and he was also powerful in the carry. 8

6 Matt Fagerson: Despite the yellow card, the flanker once again shone and was absolutely brilliant on both sides of the ball. 8

5 Richie Gray: Another player to be sin-binned but that was as a result of several team penalties. Gray was otherwise very solid without being exceptional. 5

4 Scott Cummings: Similar to Gray, did his job very well but there were better performers in that pack. 5

Excellent prop shifts

3 Zander Fagerson: Had his issues early on in the scrum but grew into the game and gradually got on top, while also putting in another incredible shift in the loose. 8

2 Johnny Matthews: Carried hard and made his tackles. Lineout also ran smoothly, with the set-piece functioning well after the initial struggles. 6

1 Jamie Bhatti: Like Fagerson, he faltered in the opening half but eventually recovered. Could have been replaced earlier but it was still a decent 70-minute shift. 5

Replacements: Carried on the fine work from the starters and if anything increased the pressure on Munster later in the match. 7
