Yankees place RHP’s Ian Hamilton, Cody Poteet on IL amid flurry of roster moves

The Yankees announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s series opener of a massive three-game set with the second place Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx.

New York placed RHP Ian Hamilton (right lat strain) and RHP Cody Poteet (right triceps strain) on the 15-day IL.

Hamilton is expected to face a bit of an extended absence, as he will be shut down from throwing for three-to-four weeks, and then will need to ramp back up after that.

Poteet may be able to return a bit sooner, as he’s expected to be shut down for one-to-two weeks before being reevaluated. With Gerritt Cole returning to the Yankees’ rotation on Wednesday night against Baltimore, it’s unknown exactly what his role will be moving forward.

In a pair of corresponding roster moves, New York is calling up lefty Anthony Misiewicz and right-hander Clayton Andrews from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Misiewicz had a brief stint with the club last season, appearing in three games before missing the rest of the season after being hit in the head with a 100-mph line drive during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He’s returned to the mound this season and has pitched well with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 3.23 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 37 strikeouts across 23 appearances.

Andrews, on the other hand, has struggled to the tune of a 16.42 ERA in 21 outings across the major and minor leagues this season after being acquired in a deal with the Brewers.
