Scottish beauty spot named best place in UK for views of summer solstice sunset

The sunniest day of the year has arrived and research has revealed the most popular places to enjoy the summer solstice.

Also known as midsummer, the summer solstice marks the longest day of the year. Daylight will stretch past 19 hours in Unst as the sun finally fades at 10:40pm in the north of Scotland.

Forecasters report the solstice marks a much-awaited return to warm weather. Scotland is overrun with stunning vistas to mark the occasion, Blinds 2go has conducted research on the most popular outdoor spots to catch the solstice’s last rays.

Their new index shows that Arthur’s Seat is the best place in the UK to enjoy the solstice. Stonehenge in Salisbury and London’s Primrose Hill follow in second and third place.

Whilst Edinburgh residents can make the worthwhile climb up the extinct volcano for an incredible view of the city, the index also recommends the Glasgow Necropolis.

Coming in sixth, the Necropolis offers sweeping views of the neighbouring Glasgow Cathedral. Modelled after Paris’ Père-Lachaise cemetery and captured in The Batman, the Victorian cemetery is situated in a hill in the east of Glasgow.

Three other spots in Scotland made the cut – Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Glasgow Green and Portobello Beach.

Leah Aspinall, Head of Design at Blinds 2go, said: “With 20 June being the longest day of the year, we’re calling all nature lovers to celebrate the Summer Solstice or Midsummer, with our latest analysis revealing the top 15 spots across the UK for enjoying this event.
