Inside Hungary’s training base with bizarre feature ahead of Scotland crunch

HUNGARY players looking to drown their sorrows after two spirit crushing Euro defeats in five days, but they don’t have too far to go.

There’s a BREWERY next door to their training ground in their remote tournament base.

There’s no suggestion any of Marco Rossi’s squad – opening Group A losses to Switzerland and Germany – have given into temptation during their stay at their luxury Tannenhof Spa Hotel, a few hundred yards from their preparation pitch which is also the home of seventh-tier Rot-Weiss Weiler.

But, at least there’s plenty of favourite local thirst quencher Post Brauerei Weiler near at hand for whenever there’s a desperate need.

Rossi’s players have been gearing up for Sunday night’s crunch showdown with Scotland in Stuttgart to the backdrop noise of bottles clinking in the factory overlooking the pitch.

And as captain and Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai admitted in the aftermath of Wednesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart they’re still not giving up on the miracle they need to somehow yet qualify for the knockout stage.

With a current minus-four goal difference and no points they not only have to thrash the Scots, they also require results in other groups to go their way.

It all seems highly unlikely – with Scotland knowing a win would very likely see them get through a finals section for the first time ever.

But, IF Hungary were to sensationally achieve their objective then they would have EVERY reason to party in the brewery.

Meanwhile, Rossi was forced to cut short today’s training session due to a thunder and lightning storm.

Torrential rain forced the squad and backroom staff to race for cover.

Hungary’s Euro campaign got off to a poor start, after they were swept aside by a dominant first-half display from the Swiss.

The 3-1 defeat meant they went into Wednesday’s tie with hosts Germany, in desperate need of points.

But a 2-0 defeat to Julian Nagelsmann‘s side means it’s all or nothing in Stuttgart when they take on Scotland.

Hungary are by no means eliminated from the competition just yet.

However, it would take a large margin of victory over Steve Clarke‘s side, to give them a chance at qualification.
