Actress Karen Gillan joins For the Love of Scotland line-up
Hollywood star Karen Gillan is set to join forces with a whole host of other Scottish celebrities to raise money for personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline health workers battling coronavirus.
The former Doctor Who actress – who stars as Nebula in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers movie franchises – has been added to the For the Love of Scotland line-up along with Travis frontman Fran Healy and Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil.
Broadcaster Edith Bowman created the event to help raise funds for the Masks for Scotland initiative.
Previously announced guests include X-Men actor James McAvoy, Outlander’s Sam Heughan and Line of Duty star Martin Compston.
The night of music, literature and poetry will be live-streamed on Wednesday between 6pm and 9pm on the Gigs in Scotland Facebook and YouTube pages.
Fans are being urged to submit stories, showcasing Scotland’s incredible community spirit throughout the lockdown – whether that be anecdotes from the last few weeks, hero shoutouts, or even a dance.
Submit stories, pictures and videos here.
Bowman said: “For the Love Of Scotland will be three hours of people coming together through music, prose, comedy, conversation and thanks, featuring both plenty of well-known faces and members of the public.
“I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am to all the people who are helping us out and giving up their time. Now we just have to do it.”
The crowdfunder will use 100% of money raised to help staff working on the frontline to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, including in intensive care units, GPs, community nurses and ambulance staff.
