Award-winning Scottish bakery goes viral on TikTok with two-hour queues

An award-winning Edinburgh bakery has gone viral as a result of its queues of up to two hours.

Lannan Bakery in Stockbridge has quickly risen to online fame since first opening its doors in July 2023. Videos on TikTok showcasing its offerings have racked up hundreds of thousands of views.

The business, which is owned by self-taught baker Darcie Maher, opens daily at 8am. However, customers eager to get their hands on its tasty treats often find themselves waiting in line for a considerable amount of time.

The bakery’s most coveted items are known to sell out within just a couple of hours from opening. This has prompted Maher to implement new measures aimed at maximising the amount of customers getting to try Lannan Bakery’s pastries.

Taking to social media, Maher announced: “Summer is here and Lannan is busier than ever — Viennoiserie is selling out by 10am and the queue is starting earlier each day. So starting from Thursday, in line with feedback from our customers, we’re putting a limit of two of each pastry per customer.”

“This is something I’ve tried to avoid since we opened, but it’s now a necessary step to ensure as many of you as possible are able to try our pastries.”

Before opening Lannan Bakery, Maher honed her self-taught skills by reading up about pastry and working in various bakeries and restaurants all over the UK.
