Teenagers in Lanarkshire can apply to join Police Scotland’s youth volunteers

Teenagers in Lanarkshire can now apply to join Police Scotland’s youth volunteers division.

Youngsters aged between 13 and 15 are now able to join a team of young people who aim to learn about Police Scotland whilst volunteering in their communities.

The aims of the Police Scotland Volunteers are promote a practical understanding of policing amongst all young people; encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship; support local policing priorities through volunteering and giving young people a chance to be heard and inspire young people to participate positively in their communities.

The principles of the PSYV are that members must be aged 13 to 17; youths who volunteer three hours a month assisting in community and crime prevention measures and representing the diversity of their service area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to develop people skills, confidence, organisational skills, discipline, and presentation skills and many more as well as making new friends.”

PSYV Lanarkshire holds sessions fortnightly on a Thursday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm in Coatbridge Community Centre, 9 Old Monkland Rd, Coatbridge, ML5 5EA.
