A CENTURY’S old dental clinic in Stirling has become the latest acquisition in a leading dentistry group’s portfolio.

Platt & Common, a historic dental clinic with a storied legacy dating back to 1861, has joined family owned Scottish Dental Care, a move that will see the clinic continue to serve its 13,500 patients.

Located in the heart of the city’s centre, the clinic is renowned for its comprehensive blend of NHS and private dental services, housed in a Grade B listed Victorian villa.

With a history that spans over 163 years, the clinic was originally established by Leon Platt, Central Scotland’s first resident dentist. It has since evolved under the tenure of John and Jennifer Denham, who have modernised the clinic while maintaining its traditional values and community focus.

Under the new stewardship, Scottish Dental Care aims to build on Platt & Common’s exceptional reputation by further enhancing its facilities and expanding the range of services offered to patients.

John and Jennifer Denham expressed their enthusiasm about joining Scottish Dental Care, highlighting the alignment in values and the opportunity to continue delivering high-quality dental care with enhanced resources.

John said: “Joining Scottish Dental Care represents a new chapter for Platt & Common, one where we can further our commitment to excellence in dental care, supported by the strength and vision of a leading dental group.

“We have been impressed by Christopher and Philip’s commitment to supporting our team, investing heavily in the industry and dedication to education, and we look forward to continue to deliver services to patients across Stirling and beyond.”

Owned by brothers and founders Philip and Christopher Friel, Scottish Dental Care’s broader vision is to provide unparalleled dental care across Scotland, with the group now boasting an impressive portfolio of 22 clinics.

Philip, a renowned dentist and the group’s director of dentistry, sets the strategic clinical direction, while Christopher oversees the expansion strategy and group legal services in his role as mergers and acquisitions director.

Philip said: “We have been working very closely with John, Jennifer, and the rest of the Platt & Common team to ensure a smooth handover, and we’re very excited to be welcoming them to the group.

“Being able to work with fantastic local dentists that have such strong reputations in their communities is key to ensuring we’re providing excellent care across Scotland.”

The integration of Platt & Common into Scottish Dental Care’s portfolio marks a significant step forward in providing high-quality, accessible dental services across Scotland. With a shared commitment to excellence, this partnership is poised to set new standards in dental care and patient satisfaction.

Lynn Hood, Chief Executive of Scottish Dental Care, and her family have been patients with Platt & Common for over 15 years. She commented on the acquisition, stating, “Platt & Common is a jewel in the crown of Scottish dentistry, and we are honoured to welcome them into the Scottish Dental Care family.

“My family have experienced first hand the excellent care provided to its patients. Their rich history and commitment to patient care perfectly complement our ethos.

“We look forward to preserving this legacy while introducing innovations that benefit both patients and staff.”

The exclusively Scottish dental group consists of 86 dentists, including four VTs, and employs more than 180 team members, serving around 200,000 patients. Its clinics provide a broad mix of treatments with most offering NHS services alongside private care and comprehensive dental plans.

Scottish Dental Care’s Advanced Dentistry brand, with two clinics in Glasgow and Castle House Dental Clinic in Inverness, provides state-of-the-art cosmetic dentistry, teeth straightening, dental implants and facial aesthetics.
