Dodgers trade LHP Matt Gage to Mets for cash considerations

The Mets acquired LHP Matt Gage in a trade Sunday that sent cash considerations to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the two teams announced.

New York optioned Gage, 31, to Triple-A Syracuse.

Also in the Mets’ announcement, the team said that it transferred RHP Drew Smith (right elbow sprain) to the 60-day IL.

In 21 IP over 20 games this season for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Gage went 1-3 with a 4.29 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.

His MLB appearances have only come from 2022-23 with the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros.

In 13 IP over 11 games with the Blue Jays during the 2022 season, Gage allowed two runs (four earned) on six hits (one homer) while striking out 12 and walking six.

The following year, with the Astros, Gage yielded two runs on six hits (one homer) while fanning eight and issuing three free passes in 6.2 IP over five games.

A Johnstown, N.Y., native, Gage played college baseball at Siena before the San Francisco Giants selected him with a 10th-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.
