Irish tourist’s first trip to Scotland made more memorable by random act

An Irish tourist was left astounded on his first visit to Scotland when a kind-hearted couple paid his £25 breakfast bill at Glasgow’s Cafe Gandolfi.

Idris Oyeniyi, who was savouring his morning meal at the famed eatery, was ready to settle his account only to find out that an anonymous duo had already covered it after overhearing him tell the staff it was his inaugural Scottish journey, wanting to make his experience even more special.

The act of generosity completely caught Idris off guard. The 29 year old from Kildare, now living in Birmingham, shared: “I was quite taken aback by it to be honest.”

“I hadn’t even spoke to them before that point,” he added, still amazed by the gesture. “It wasn’t like I was going to cry necessarily but they really didn’t have to do that. It was just pure kindness and I wasn’t expecting it.”

Moved by Idris’ enthusiasm for Scottish culture and food, the couple decided to express their hospitality by discreetly taking care of his £25 dining charge.

Delving deeper into the story, Idris recounted: “The woman really liked that I was visiting to discover Scotland.”

The couple also shared why the cafe held sentimental value for them: “It was her birthday that day and her husband has proposed to her in that cafe so I could tell it meant a lot to her.”

Eddy, the moniker used by Idris on his YouTube channel where he documents his globetrotting exploits, found himself in Glasgow for a brief weekend visit. This gesture of goodwill has inspired him to delve deeper into Scotland’s charms in times to come.

Idris shared his Scottish travel experiences: “I’ve now been to Edinburgh, Dundee, Isle of Arran and a few others.”

Expressing his fondness for Scotland, he revealed: “I think my favourite so far has been Dundee but I want to go round all the different Scottish islands now.”

Embracing his adventurous nature, Idris makes the most of his weekends to explore new places. He explained: “I do a lot of my travels over the weekends so being able to go somewhere in the UK makes it a lot easier.”
