Aldi’s new Scottish gin under £20 wins ‘gold’ award at prestigious competition
Aldi has continued its streak of award-worthy tipples after one of its newest Scottish gins took home a top award at a major competition.
The supermarket’s Còmhla Scottish Gin took home the gold award in the ‘ premium’ Gin Masters category of the 2024 Spirits Business Awards. Championed by leading spirits specialists, the competition aims to award the finest spirits on the market.
A blind taste test panel praised the tipple for its “aromatic nose” which led to “freshness from the juniper, lime zest and fresh black pepper”. Its win ranked it above other premium bottles from Wembley Crown, Mayfair and Beefeater – which were awarded silver.
Launched only seven months ago, the grocer’s premium handcrafted Scottish gin is priced at £19.99 for a 70cl bottle. It was the only retailer to obtain an award in this year’s prestigious competition.
Aldi’s Còmhla gin joins a wide variety of other Scottish-inspired bottles you can find on store shelves. The supermarket also offers a selection of flavours in its Toradh (pronounced Tor-ig) gin range.
Graham Nicolson, Regional Managing Director, Aldi Scotland, said: “To be the only retailer to have obtained medals within this prestigious competition, including a gold medal for our Còmhla Scottish Gin, is quite the achievement. We’re very proud that this gin is getting the recognition it deserves after only being stocked in our stores since December.
“This recognition shows we are producing world-class gins on par with premium brands for just a fraction of the price.”

Aldi’s premium Scottish gin was not the only bottle that took top honours in the Spirit Business Awards this year. Three of the brand’s own-brand Haysmith’s bottles were awarded gold in the ‘standard’ category of the competition this year.
Among the winners was Haysmith’s London Dry Gin, which is priced at £15.99 a bottle. Haysmith’s Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin, £14.99, was also crowned with the same award in the category.
Meanwhile, the third bottle to take home the prize was the brand’s Premium Sloe Gin. Priced at £14.99, the now award-winning gin is set to make its grand return to store shelves this September.
The latest wins for the supermarket means that it has been awarded over 25 medals for its bottles over the last 12 months. Just last month, three of its own-brand bottles of whisky took home gold awards at this year’s International Spirits Challenge.
