Celtic hero Kris Ajer spotted caddying at Scottish Open as he switches sports

GOLF fans will be lining up in Troon this week to see the best players in the world take part in the Genesis Scottish Open.

But first things first is the tournament’s pro-am event with celebs given the chance to play the course before champion Rory McIlroy and co officially get underway tomorrow.

And Celtic fans who have made the trip to Troon have been given an extra special treat as three Hoops heroes have been spotted taking part in the event.

Footballers have often swapped the pitch for the golf course, with Rangers legend Allan McGregor accompanying former Dundee United and Hibs striker Steven Fletcher in testing out their clubs at last year’s competition.

And some of McGregor’s old football rivals decided to followed in his footsteps in Ayrshire today.

It’s been a rather busy few weeks for Stuart Armstrong this summer after spending majority of June in Germany with the Scotland camp for Euro 2024.

But the former Celtic midfielder is now enjoying some down time away from football after being released by Southampton following the end of his contract.

The 32-year-old spent six years at St Mary’s following his move to the Saints from Parkhead in 2018.

But the playmaker is now weighing up his future in the game after leaving the club after they won promotion back to the Premier League.

Armstrong will have a huge decision to make over where to play his football next.

But for now, 51-cap international is taking a well-earned break away from the pitch and has switched sports for the time being to take on the par-70 course along with a list of celebs.

And the midfielder called on one of his old Celtic pals to join him for the pro-am event.

Kristoffer Ajer has been spotted on the course working as Armstrong’s caddy after making a surprise trip back to Scotland before returning to Brentford for pre-season training.

Golf magazine Bunkered had their man out on the course following all the action.

And they reported that Armstrong had said his “big friend Kris” was in the area so he decided to employ him for the afternoon.

Ajer could be seen walking around the course holding his Hoops pal’s clubs while wearing a bib with “ARMSTRONG” written on the front.

It was a surprising sight for fans as many would have been surprised to see the Norway international in Troon for the tournament.

Elsewhere, they were both also joined by former Celtic skipper Scott Brown, who also paid the course a visit.

It wouldn’t have been as long of a commute for the legendary captain though as he is in the area as manager of local club Ayr United.

Other Scottish celebs at the event included actor Dougray Scott and former rugby union player Rob Wainwright.

The duo, along with Brown, wore caps embroidered with Doddie’5 tartan for the day – a tribute to Scotland rugby legend Doddie Weir.
