Scotland’s best ‘hidden gem road trip’ with white sands and crystal clear waters

A secluded white sandy beach has been named Scotland’s top hidden gem for a summer road trip.

Berneray West Beach is a picturesque destination in the Outer Hebrides. With fewer than 100 posts on Instagram and TikTok combined, it is an ideal escape for those looking to avoid the usual tourist hotspots.

As reported by The Mirror, the beach topped Hippo Leasing’s recent list of the top ten hidden gems across the UK. The company analysed hashtag data on Instagram and TikTok for 173 road trip destinations in the UK, identifying the least documented yet most scenic spots.

Boasting expansive sand dunes and crystal clear waters, Berneray can be accessed from the Scottish mainland by ferry. On the island, visitors can park at the car park past Berneray Village Hall and stroll down to the peaceful beach.

Once there, you can walk along the beautiful soft sand and listen to the gentle lapping of the sea against the shore. You might even spot a seal colony.

Meanwhile, Scotland also claimed the second spot on Hippo Leasing’s list. Following behind Berneray West Beach is the Eas a’Bhradain waterfall on the Isle of Skye.

Situated off the A87, this breathtaking cascade of waterfalls is surrounded by rugged mountainsides. As an added bonus, the path to the waterfall is relatively short and easy to navigate — although it can become very muddy in the rain.

Elsewhere on the list, there are destinations in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Rounding out the top five are Blackslee Waterfall in Enniskillen, Holme Force in the Lake District, and Wild Pear Beach in Devon.
