Yankees option Scott Effross to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after returning RHP from rehab assignment, 60-day IL

The Yankees optioned RHP Scott Effross Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after returning him Sunday from his rehab assignment and the 60-day IL. New York additionally designated RHP Cody Morris for assignment.

Effross, 30, underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2022 and missed the 2023 season.

Acquired by the Yankees through an August 2022 trade that sent RHP Hayden Wesneski to the Chicago Cubs, Effross allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits (one homer) while striking out 12, walking four and hitting one in 12.2 IP over 13 games.

Effross began his rehab assignment June 19 with Low-A Tampa before heading to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre seven days later. In nine games — two at Tampa and seven with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — Effross yielded five runs (four earned) on 11 hits (one homer) while striking out 11 and walking two over 10.1 IP.

Morris, 27, had a 4.25 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 24 games (two starts) for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
