Gauthier, Zellweger Give First On-Ice Look at Full Ducks Uniforms

The NHLPA held their 14th annual Rookie Showcase on Sept. 4 at the Washington Capitals practice facility in Arlington, VA.

The showcase’s main objective is to “obtain photo and video of the players in their respective NHL team jerseys to be used for their first official rookie hockey cards, as well as additional promotional materials throughout the season and beyond.”

The Ducks were represented at the event by forward Cutter Gauthier and defenseman Olen Zellweger. The event featured 35 young players considered first-year NHL players.

When Gauthier and Zellweger stepped onto the ice, they gave the public the first on-ice look at the team’s new jerseys and uniforms.

“Yeah, they’re great. I saw them at dev camp earlier this summer, but I think they’re sick,” Gauthier told NHL.com’s Adam Kimelman. “I think they did a really good job with the logo. I’m pumped to rock them.”

“I think they’re really nice, actually,” Zellweger said. “First time having the full jersey on, I think it looks really nice. The orange, they pulled it together. The orange helmet is pretty good too, actually.”

Similarly, the Ducks wore orange pants with their Reverse Retro 2.0 look for the 2022-23 season, but home games in 2024-25 will mark the first time the team will wear orange helmets to match.

A slight discrepancy between Gauthier and Zellweger’s uniforms at the showcase was the color of their gloves. Gauthier wore black gloves with an orange cuff while Zellweger wore orange gloves with a black cuff. For those interested, it will be worth monitoring which way the Ducks go when the full team takes the ice.

The first time the uniforms will be worn in a game setting will be at the 2024 Rookie Faceoff, set to take place Sept. 13-16 in El Segundo, CA. The Ducks will be one of seven teams participating in the tournament and will play three games against the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, and Los Angeles Kings.

Gauthier will participate in the Ducks rookie camp and the Face-Off while Zellweger will not as he lost his rookie status by playing 26 regular season games in 2023-24.
