Avalanche Claim Defenseman John Ludvig Off Waivers; Waive Tynan, Wagner

As the deadline approaches for NHL teams to have their 23-man rosters set for the beginning of the 24-25 season, the Colorado Avalanche made a couple of transactions on the waiver wire earlier today.

The Avalanche claimed defenseman John Ludvig from the Pittsburgh Penguins and waived forward T.J. Tynan and Chris Wagner.

The 24-year old defenseman in Ludvig, played in 33 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last year after being placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers. Ludvig recorded 5 points and 47 penalty minutes in his 33 games with the Penguins in the 23-24 season. Now after being claimed, Ludvig will likely be one of eight defensemen on the Avs’ opening night roster.

Tynan, 32, has been a AHL journeyman for most of his career, playing with 6 different AHL teams since his debut in 2013-2014. At the NHL level, Tynan has played in 21 career games, the majority of them with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019-2020 season when he appeared in 16 games. Tynan spent all of last season with the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate the Ontario Reign, scoring 66 points in 71 games. Should Tynan clear waivers, he figures to be a top player for the Colorado Eagles, the Avs’ AHL affiliate.

Wagner, 33, played in 13 games for the Avalanche last season and 21 games for the Colorado Eagles in the AHL. The veteran forward has played in 373 career games at the NHL level for the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders and the Boston Bruins.

NHL teams have until Monday October 7th at 5:00PM EST to be salary cap compliant.
