Red Wings’ Top Prospect’s Career Year Rewarded
Good play is rewarded.
At least, that is how it should be. In the case of one of the Detroit Red Wings top prospects, that’s happening.
The KHL season is halfway through, and Dmitri Buchelnikov is turning heads—to the point that he has been selected to attend the KHL All-Star Game.
Buchelnikov was named to the Bobrov Division All-Star Team earlier yesterday. This is the first time the 21-year-old has been named to the KHL All-Star team.
Buchelnikov has produced spectacularly this season. In 33 games, he has recorded eight goals and 22 assists while playing for 17 minutes a night.
His 30 points this year are one more than he recorded in all 55 games last season. Reaching this production level in a man’s league at 21 years old is nothing short of impressive.
Additionally, he’s ranked eighth in scoring across the entire KHL.
Last year, he played 14:37 per game, recorded 13 goals and 16 assists, and shot the puck 113 times. This season, he has already taken 97 shots.
All of this bodes well for the Red Wings. Buchelnikov has all of the tools to make him a successful NHLer. The fact that he appears to be putting it all together in the KHL only makes him a more valuable asset to the Red Wings organization.
Teams need prospects of all kinds. Buchelnikov brings speed and a shooter mentality, which the Red Wings need in their lineup every night.
Let’s hope this good play is rewarded with a trip across the pond to play in North America in the near future.
