The controversial decision dissected: Fury vents anger at judges after Usyk defeat
Tyson Fury claimed he won his fight “by at least three rounds” after the Briton lost to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision in their heavyweight world title fight in Riyadh.
The bout appeared desperately close but all three judges scored it 116-112 in favour of the Ukrainian as he successfully defended his title.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren declared himself “dumbfounded” by the scorecards, with the Gypsy King leaving the ring before he could be interviewed.
Fury, though, made his thoughts clear in comments made on his way back to his dressing room in comments broadcast by Sky Sports, saying: “I swear to God I thought I won the fight by at least three rounds.”
That sentiment was backed up by Warren, who appeared shocked at the unanimous decision – pointing out the judges all picked four different rounds that Fury won.
“How has Tyson only got four rounds in this fight? It’s impossible,” he said.
“I know people will think I’m biased but all the people along the front [row] there we all thought it was going the same way. Some people didn’t look too happy.”
He later added: “I’m dumbfounded. They gave him four rounds, which is impossible. One judge didn’t give him one round from six onwards. That’s impossible. Same here [with another judge’s scorecard]. It’s crazy. I am calm and collected, I’m not screaming and shouting – it’s a nonsense. I mean, what fight were they watching?
“All you want is a level playing field and a fair crack of the whip and that scoring was not good at all.”
What they said
Lennox Lewis
It was a good fight. I would have liked to have seen Tyson a little more aggressive and go after Usyk a bit more. He will feel maybe he won the fight. I felt he could have done a little more work.
David Haye
As I was walking away from ringside a lot of people thought Usyk won easily, I thought it was close. Radio Rahim had it 9-3 to Usyk.
I thought Tyson boxed a lot better than he did last time but Usyk raised his game again.
Carl Frampton
I scored it a draw, if you go a round or two to Usyk or Fury you can’t complain.
It seems wrong if I’m honest.
Steve Bunce
I don’t think either camp thought they knew they won it for sure.
I think the Usyk camp thoguht they nicked it and the Fury camp probably thought they won it.
I’ve never seen Frank Warren speechless like that. He seemed in shock. He didn’t say it was a robbery. If it was 7-5 he would not have complained.
Anthony Crolla
I have no problem with Usyk getting it, I thought it was very close. I didn’t think it was that far apart.
Johnny Nelson
I had it a little bit closer. Usyk initiated almost everything in the fight and Tyson had to react. Usyk was the one that was working to a plan, Tyson was the one that was having to try to deal with one.
Yes, it was close, I don’t think the scorecards were like that. But I understand that Usyk did a great job. Frank was saying he thought Tyson won. That’s being a promoter. There’s no way in a million years he thought Tyson won.
The best man won on the night and got the job done.

Congratulations Usyk, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Tyson my amigo, back to the drawing board. YOU WILL BE BACK!!
David Coldwell
Usyk wins and deservedly so for me. Body punches often go unnoticed but right from the opener Usyk worked hard to the body. Two really evenly matched fighters gave us 24 fantastic rounds of boxing. Brilliant.”
