Fleur East says her singing voice almost gave away her pregnancy secret
What did you miss?
Fleur East was still performing deep into her pregnancy and kept it secret from the majority of people, but her singing voice very nearly let the cat out of the bag. Speaking on the Christmas Eve edition of Lorraine, the 37-year-old star explained that pregnancy changed her voice.
East’s first daughter, Nova, was born in March 2024. The star explained that it was her breathing that was affected during her pregnancy, sending her off to the side of stage in order to take extra breaths.
What, how and why?
In her interview with Lorraine host Christine Lampard, East discussed her upcoming return to music as well as her stint alongside Vernon Kay as the host of The National Lottery New Year’s Eve Big Bash. She said that she noticed some big changes in her voice when she was pregnant.
“I remember Adele speaking about this. She said, when she recorded her album when she was pregnant, she could reach different octaves that she couldn’t reach when she wasn’t pregnant,” said East.
The singer added: “I remember, for me, the thing that was impacted the most was my breathing. I remember doing gigs when I was maybe five months pregnant, and I would really run out of breath a lot easier.
“And as well, because I hadn’t told anyone I was pregnant, I was kind of trying to hold it down and taking deep breaths at the side of the stage away from the mic. It was a different experience.”
East confirmed she’s “back on form” now and ready to return to the world of music when she can find a gap in her busy TV and radio schedule. That includes her role as one of the presenters of Strictly Come Dancing companion show It Takes Two.

Reacting to this year’s Strictly Come Dancing final, East said winner Chris McCausland was “honestly remarkable” as a Strictly contestant. “We were just blown away by him. His musicality, his timing. He was in the right place at the right time,” said East.
She added: “Honestly, it’s remarkable. I mean, he deserved to win. His story with Dianne [Buswell] was honestly the most emotional, heartfelt story to watch.”
What else happened on Lorraine?
This festive edition of Lorraine featured a huge preview of all of the biggest TV over the Christmas period, including the final Gavin and Stacey episode and the return of Wallace and Gromit. There was also an in-depth look at The Piano at Christmas, fronted by Claudia Winkleman on Channel 4.
In the kitchen, the show pondered the new trend for glitter gravy, though Lampard refused to taste the blue-green sparkles poured over a plate of sausages. It’s fair to say they didn’t look especially appetising.
Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV and streams via ITVX.
