Aaron Hickey Scotland Euro chances rated as Thomas Frank addresses injury

Thomas Frank admits he’s not expecting Aaron Hickey to feature again this season – but he won’t rule out an early comeback.

The Brentford defender, 21, has been out of action for nearly five months with a hamstring injury which has left him and Scotland head coach Steve Clarke sweating over his fitness with Euro 2024 just around the corner at the end of the domestic season. Frank, the Bees boss, had previously suggested the former Hearts left-back would likely miss the tournament, but now he has provided the latest update on his player.




Frank revealed this morning how Hickey is “progressing” and while he does not expect him to return before the Premier League term ends, there’s no guarantees.

He also acknowledged that his chances of making the Euro squad are also slim, but not for him to decide.

“He’s progressing,” Frank said of Hickey. “As he’s been out for so long I’m not counting on [him playing this season] but let’s see what happens in the next weeks – right now I’m not expecting it.

“I guess it’s not fantastic [for his Euros chances] but that’s not for me to judge.”
