Aldi names two Scottish locations for new stores – full wish list of 27 areas

Two areas in Scotland could be set for an Aldi store after the supermarket revealed its wish list of new locations across the UK.

The supermarket giant has been on a rapid expansion drive across the UK following a surge in popularity over the past few years. As part of its ambitious plans, the grocer asked the nation to get in touch with areas that would need a new store.

Following thousands of requests, the budget grocer has now revealed its full list of 27 locations that it would like to open up new stores over the coming years. Scottish locations included on the list are Clarkston and Cathcart.

While there are currently 1,020 Aldi stores across the UK, the supermarket’s long-term plans will see it operate 1,500. Each new location will ideally be near a main road with visible access, whilst also being able to accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with around 100 parking spaces.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high quality food accessible to all, but we can’t do that while there are still some towns and areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have capacity for additional stores.

“We recognise there is huge demand in certain regions for more stores, which is why we decided to get the public’s input on our latest list of priority locations. They have helped us identify where demand is greatest and we will continue to work to bring Aldi to as many people as possible.”
