Alumni: Calgary Flames First Rounder Signs One Year Deal
The Calgary Flames announced yesterday, the signing of restricted free agent left winger, Jakob Pelletier, to a one year deal worth $0.800 million.
Taken at 26th by the Flames in 2019, Pelletier has struggled to maintain a roster spot at the NHL level.
Over the last two seasons, he has played in 37 NHL games scoring 10 points (3+7).
Now 23 and eligible for waivers, it could be a make-it-or-break-it season for Pelletier as a Flame. If he’s unable to stick it in the NHL, he could very well get claimed by an opportunistic team.
That said, given the departures from the Flames org and Pelletier being healthy, there’s no better opportunity to earn it.
As of the 13th of September, The Hockey News has Pelletier listed as the fourth line left winger going into the 2024-25 season.
It is of note that his deal is two-way, meaning that he would be paid at a lesser amount, should he get sent down to the AHL.
Pelletier was a four-year veteran of the QMJHL, amassing 275 points (107+168) over 210 games between the Moncton Wildcats and the Val-d’Or Foreurs — captaining both teams.
