Australia ‘may consider’ using Scotland game to engineer England exit
Josh Hazlewood has admitted that it’s in Australia’s “best interest” to secure a result that forces England out of the T20 World Cup when they face Scotland this weekend.
After a washout against Scotland and defeat by Australia, England must beat Oman and Namibia to have any hope of finishing second in group B and reaching the Super 8s stage of the competition.
Even then, however, there is a troubling scenario where if they are still short of Scotland’s net run rate, the Scots — who play Australia later in the day — would know by how much they could afford to lose and remain ahead of England, while Australia would also know by how much they could win but still knock England out.
