Bears place RB Travis Homer on IR
The Chicago Bears are placing running back Travis Homer on injured reserve, head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters Friday.
Homer landed on the injury report this week with a finger injury that he suffered during practice. Eberflus said that Homer had surgery on his finger, which landed him on IR. That means Homer will have to miss at least the next four games. With Chicago’s bye week falling in Week 7, that makes him eligible to return in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders.
In two games this season, Homer has three carries for 16 yards. But he’s served primarily as a special teams contributor.
With Homer landing on IR, that should mean more reps for Roschon Johnson, who hasn’t recorded a carry this season through two games. He’ll serve as the third running back behind D’Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert.
The Bears run game has been among the worst in the league through two weeks — averaging 77.5 rushing yards per game, which ranks 28th. But Chicago will have a chance to get the run game going on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, who are allowing the most rushing yards per game (237.0) through two games.
