‘Best I ever had’, declares Netflix star as they visit Scotland’s top kebab shop
A HUGE Netflix star has hailed the food at a top Glasgow kebab shop as the “best he’s ever had” during the latest series of his popular show.
Shawarma King featured on the streaming giant’s hit show Somebody Feed Phil.
The series, fronted by Everybody Loves Raymond realtor Phil Rosenthal, sees the cheery presenter travel around the world trying food in different cities.
The new season, which kicked off on Friday, features a full episode devoted to Glasgow.
And one of the many restaurants Phil visited was Shawarma King – which is situated under a railway bridge on King Street.
The eatery serves up Middle Eastern staples such as falafel and kebabs to hungry punters.
In the show, Phil meets Majed who makes him up a chicken and lamb mixed shawarma.
After taking his first bite, Majed asks: “You tell me now. I’m a king?”
And Phil replies: “Long live the king. So juicy, crispy, beautiful flavour.”
After trying the kebab, Phil said: “I’ve been a lot of places. I’ve been to places where they have shawarma.
“This is… I’m calling it… the best shawarma I ever had. Yes, in Glasgow, Scotland.
“Okay, I may have said the same thing a few times before, but this one was made by royalty.”
The host then vowed that he would try more food off camera.
Last week, Shawarma King scooped the Best Kebab House in Scotland accolade at this year’s British Kebab Awards in London for the third year in a row.
Bosses opened up a second branch of the popular eatery in September in Glasgow’s west end, situated on Paisley Road.
Staff at Shawarma King took to social media after the new show aired, saying they were “proud” to feature on the programme.
Their Facebook post read: “WE MADE IT TO NETFLIX!
“As some of you will know Phil Rosenthal and his popular Netflix show Somebody Feed Phil came to Glasgow last year and when we were approached to have him feature our wee shop we couldn’t say no!
“We are so proud to have been featured alongside some of Glasgow’s best establishments, and want to thank Phil and the whole team for being an absolute delight to work with on the day.
“Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine we would be featured on Netflix, and it’s insane to receive such recognition and to see how far we have come.
“You can watch us in his new season of somebody feed Phil on the final episode where he visits Scotland.”
During his time in Scotland, Phil takes a trip to Edinburgh and Skye, as well as Glasgow.
In Glasgow he visits Ga Ga – run by Julie Lin, Tantrum Doughnuts and Sunny Acre.
