Bob Dylan owned £3million house in an idyllic national park home to a ‘quarter of Scotland’s native forest’

As one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, Bob Dylan has done his fair share of globetrotting.

For 17 years, however, the singer used a sprawling property in the Scottish Highlands as his base.

The estate stretched over 25 acres of land, featuring cottages, a large greenhouse and a walled garden.

It was reportedly built between 1911 and 1914 as a holiday home for businessman Archibald Merilees.

Dylan eventually sold the estate for a staggering £3million, giving new homeowners a chance to enjoy some of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes.

Tom Stewart-Moore, of Knight Frank property agency, said: “I am pleased to share that Aultmore House, which was launched to the market in July, has now been sold to its new custodians, who will usher this magnificent home into its next chapter.

“Up until about pre-Covid times, Bob and his brother would normally go there for a few weeks a year.

“They bought it because it’s stunningly beautiful and most importantly, very, very private.”

Located in the village of Nethy Bridge, the 16-bedroom house is at the heart of Cairngorms National Park.

The National Park’s official website states that it is home “to one-quarter of Scotland’s native forest”.

The region also harbours a third of the UK land above 600 meters; more breeding waders than the whole of Wales and a quarter of the rare and endangered species in the UK.

Visitors who would like to extend their stay will find a variety of accommodations on offer, from B&Bs to self-catering cottages.

“There are hundreds of attractions across the Park,” notes Cairngorm’s official site. “Visit museums and castles, adventure parks and breweries, art venues and garden centres.”

“Experience some of the world’s most unique and rare wildlife and landscapes with a visit to one or more of the nine National Nature Reserves in the Park.

“And be sure to sample the local food and drink at the many restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and pubs throughout the Park.”

Not far from the region is Tilda Swinton’s home, where the actress enjoys a secluded life in the Scottish Highlands.

The Oscar-winning actress secured a 118-year-old property in the fishing port of Nairn, located in a region known for its soaring hills and sweeping landscapes.
