Bomb squad scrambled & homes evacuated after ‘suspect item’ found in Scots town
LOCALS in a Scots town were evacuated from their homes as a “suspect item” was found after a van went up in flames.
Emergency crews raced to the scene in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, at around 11.20pm last night.
The alarm was raised after police received a report of a van on fire at Benvue Road.
After the blaze was extinguished, a “suspect item” was found at the vehicle.
This was then removed by Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
A number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.20pm on Saturday, 8 June, 2024, police received a report of a van on fire at Benvue Road, Lennoxtown.
“The fire was extinguished and no-one was injured.
“A suspect item was found at the vehicle and this has been safely removed by Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
“A number of properties were evacuated as a precaution.
